I just discovered the Vimeo page of Tim Macmillan’s time-slice films. The first piece I saw from him was the music video Underwater Love by Smoke City more than ten years ago. I still remember how puzzled I was about how the effect of the splashed water which was frozen in time while the camera was moving around it was achieved. After the video I was thinking about it for a while until I came to the conclusion that he must have used an array of cameras all synchronized with each other. What ingenuity! What a joy now to be able to watch his earlier experiments with this technique and also the later implementations in the commercial pieces. My personal highlights so far are these clips here: early work, weird nature sequence, short explanation of the technique in tomorrow’s world, supernatural, pit stop special and many more. Here’s an interesting article about his work.
