The book Generative Gestaltung by Julia Laub, Hartmut Bohnacker, Benedikt Gross and Claudius Lazzeroni is out. I wrote a small article about Gestalt for it. Haven’t received my copy yet but it looks really nice judging from the preview PDF that I have. Check out the website where you’ll find more info. It’s available at Amazon. So far it’s only available in German but an English edition will come out soon.
I just discovered the Vimeo page of Tim Macmillan’s time-slice films. The first piece I saw from him was the music video Underwater Love by Smoke City more than ten years ago. I still remember how puzzled I was about how the effect of the splashed water which was frozen in time while the camera was moving around it was achieved. After the video I was thinking about it for a while until I came to the conclusion that he must have used an array of cameras all synchronized with each other. What ingenuity! What a joy now to be able to watch his earlier experiments with this technique and also the later implementations in the commercial pieces. My personal highlights so far are these clips here: early work, weird nature sequence, short explanation of the technique in tomorrow’s world, supernatural, pit stop special and many more. Here’s an interesting article about his work.
Energie! received the first prize at the In Out Festival in Gdansk [Poland]. Thanks a lot.
I made a few visuals for the theatre-performance L’Amour Fou based on Jean Cocteau’s play and directed by Mia Kaspari. For some I remixed my films for other parts I made something new and still other parts were interviews that Mia did. Among the people interviewed were underground filmmaker Lothar Lambert and artist Schädelwaldt.
I decided to split the Blog/News category in two. The festival and screening related posts have now its own category called Screenings as you can see on the left. The other news will still be posted in the old Blog/News category.
The article ‘Borderline Animation’ that I wrote for ANM – Animation An Interdisciplinary Journal has now been published and is available here.
Energie! received the Special Jury Mention at Fest Anca 2009.
